Significance of hygiene is taught at the primary school levels. But what exactly is hygiene? How do you follow hygiene at home, at school, at the office, at community places? Conditions or practices maintaining cleanliness to avoid spreading germs and infections can be broadly described as hygiene.
Different types of hygiene can be classified as personal hygiene, home hygiene, shower hygiene, etc. Let’s take a quick look at the practices followed to achieve hygiene in different areas.
- Personal hygiene
Personal hygiene starts with hands, teeth, nails, ears, eyes, and various parts. Hand hygiene is one of the most important things that need to be taken care of. Hands are exposed to germs widely and are the major source of germ carriers. So regular handwashing with soap and water kills all the germs and prevents you from getting infected. Handwashing steps you would like to make it a routine practice for children and elders are as follows;
- Use running water from the tap to wash your hands.
- Rub both your hands with soap and water for at least 40 seconds.
- Rub your hands thoroughly on both sides.
- Once you are done with washing hands, use a clean towel or paper napkin to dry your hands.
- Home hygiene
Home cleaning includes maintaining spick and clean places of the home. Living rooms should be well maintained free from clutter. The routine should be set for furniture cleaning and a dusting of floor tiles using floor cleaner. Using doormats should be made mandatory while entering the house.
Kitchens should be organized and sinks free from used and stained utensils as soiled utensils are likely to generate more germs in no time. Routine pest control activities should be scheduled to keep rodents and pests away that carry harmful germs and bacteria. Gardens should be free from rotten waste leaves and plants etc., capable of generating germs and bacteria harmful to your family.
- Shower hygiene
One of the most important is the shower hygiene that needs to be taken care of for the prevention of diseases. Toilet seats and showers are the places where thousands of pathogens, germs, and bacteria harmful for humans are vastly generated and spread.
A regular cleaning routine has to be set for all the toilets and showers in the house. Clean and dry conditions have to be maintained in baths. Routine norms of flushing toilets with plenty of water have to be followed by all family members apart from cleaning and scrubbing seats and washbasins.
Every family should contribute to curbing the spread of diseases that are spread by viruses and bacteria. They should follow the simple routine of using a handkerchief while sneezing or coughing. This is to stop the chain of multiplication of viruses and bacteria and contribute to the prevention of diseases.
